The Wolf-mask

Father, a wolf-mask comes after me
strapped to your dear face
which I loved for its gift of security
no cruel disguise could replace.

So why do you haunt me now
with a grin and a false red tongue
as if to say: This is what I could not tell you
when you were young –

as if you needed to hear me ask
for the truth after all this time,
to have me tear off your wolf-mask
and acknowledge it as mine?


 

Masca de lup

Tata, o masca de lup vine dupa mine
prinsa in curele de fata ta linistitoare
pe care am iubit-o pentru darul ei de certitudine
ce nu poate fi inlocuit de nici o cruda deghizare.

Asa ca de ce ma bantui acum
cu un ranjet si o limba rosie falsa
ca si cum ai spune: Asta e ce sa iti spun
nu am putut cand erai tanar –

de parca ai avea nevoie sa ma auzi intreband
care e adevarul dupa toata aceasta vreme,
sa ma faci sa iti smulg masca de lup
si sa recunosc ca a mea e?
