Sitting, Ralph was aware of the heat for the first time that day. He pulled distastefully at his gray shirt and wondered whether he might undertake the adventure of washing it. Sitting under what seemed an unusual heat, even for this island, Ralph planned his toilet. He would like to have a pair of scissors and cut this hair- he flung the mass back-cut this filthy hair right back to half an inch. He would like to have a bath a proper wallow with soap. He passed his tongue experimentally over his teeth and decided that a toothbrush would come in handy too. Then there were his nails-
Ralph turned his hand over and examined them. They were bitten down to the quick though he could remember when he had restarted this habit nor any time when he indulged it.
“Be sucking my thumb next-“

Stand Ralph, era constient pentru prima data in acea zi de caldura excesiva. Trase cu neplacere de tricoul gri si se intreba daca s-ar putea incumeta sa-l spele. Stand la soare pe o caldura neobisnuita , chiar si pentru aceasta insula, Ralph isi planifica toaleta. Si-ar dori sa aiba o foarfeca si sa sa tunda- isi dadu pe spate parul crescut neglijent- sa isi tunda acest par murdar pana la un centimetru. Si-ar dori sa faca o baie, o balaceala adevarata cu sapun. Isi trecu experimental limba peste si decise ca o periuta de dinti i-ar prinde tocmai bine. Apoi erau unghiile –
Ralph isi intoarse mana si isi examina unghiile. Erau roase pana la sange desi nu isi aminti cand isi recapatase acest obicei si nici momentul cand si l-a ingadfuit.
