Review of Contemporary Texts in Translation and E-Learning

MAGGIE BUTT

We were delighted to welcome our two Romanian guests to the translation workshop which they ran aspart of the two day Middlesex University Literary Festival.

The workshop was very well attended by our BA and MA Translation students. They listened attentively to the three readers - Maggie Butt, who is head ofthe Media Department at Middlesex University, Katherine Gallagher and XX, who read their poems in English. Each was followed by a beautiful reading of the poems in Romanian.

A lively workshop was then lead by our Romanian guests, who set an intriguing translation exercise, from Romanian into English, which turned out to be one of Katherine's poems.

Everyone agreed that it was fascinating both to hear the Romanian, and to see the variations in possibe translations. It gave much food for thought.

We were very grateful to our guests for this cross cultural exchange and insight.
